Our Story
Established in 2000, AL’S GOURMET NUTS is a family owned and operated business not a franchise. Margaret Wilson-Anaglia as founder and owner is a food artisan who brings over 30 years of public, private and entrepreneurial experience to the business. That, combined with her passion for fresh and local food made the old-fashioned way, has turned the business into a success.
AL’S GOURMET NUTS is the third child of the family, there are two wonderful sons. Birthing the gourmet nut company was a multi-year labor full of twists and turns. Starting with selling hammocks, garden décor, and imported Mexican art at weekend festivals before realizing she already knew a product that had a loyal following and could have widespread appeal – gourmet candied pecans.
Margaret had been a fan of the pecans for many years, snacking on them at festivals. So she befriended the original nut maker, an executive chef, and offered to buy his business. The initial price was more than she wanted to pay, but when the chef decided to retire a year later, he offered Margaret a deal she could not refuse.
After buying the chef’s basic candy-glazing recipe and a nut roaster, the former city government employee launched AL’S GOURMET NUTS. It was just in time for the arrival of their first son, an event that spurred Margaret to begin staying at home. Initially, she acquired repeat customers by glazing the nuts fresh at Hill Country festivals on weekends and expanding the product line. The family then branched into serving corporate and group clients.
AL’S GOURMET NUTS sweet varieties are so popular that friends and family “work for nuts” rather than cash during the busy holiday seasons. Over the years she has delivered tons of gourmet candied pecans, almonds, peanuts, and kettle corn. Can you really have just one?
